The cultural quarter
The Wallanlagen park and cultural quarter occupy the area between the old city and the ‘Viertel’. The first building that can be seen in Wallanlagen is the Bremen Art Museum, whose private art collection rates with the most important in Germany.
A little further to the right, at the end of the street, is the historic police building, with the passing road running straight to the Market Square. A turn to the right past Wallanlagen reveals the Wilhelm Wagenfeld Museum, dedicated to a singular exhibition of design work. Opposite the building lies the Gerhard Marcks Museum, which has been shaping Northern Germany’s history of sculpture. This is where the ‘Viertel’, the city’s lively clubland, begins.
