The city's fabulous Christmas market is held on the historical market square surrounded by the town hall and Roland statue – part of the same UNESCO World Heritage site – the cathedral and the Church of Our Lady. Glittering illuminations, candlelight and lovingly decorated stalls are the hallmarks of this delightful scene. The Christmas market also extends along the Weser river where winter, maritime tradition and historical Bremen are the themes on the Schlachte promenade. What could be more festive than strolling amongst the stalls, booths and chalets, enjoying the aromas of freshly roasted almonds, gingerbread and Glühwein?
